Jack J. Valenti - How to build your resume

Its no secret that a good resume is king in the job market today. A good resume is your ticket into highly competitive positions, prestigious companies and more. The good news for students of Jack J. Valenti is that there are a abundent amount of great opportunities students can take advantage of to build a robust resume.
one of those opportunities is Internships. Internships are great because they provide you with real world applicable experience that employers love to see on your resume. Also many if not almost every potential employer offers unique internships opportunities for potential recruitment. In almost every degree field within communications to boot. They do have a few down sides however, they are often rigorous in time requirement often needing you to maintain a work like schedule to participate in them. Which for full time college students is sometimes simply just not feasible.
The second great way to boost your resume is through the wonders of Volunteering. What makes Volunteering so great is that it is often on your own time, you do it when you have the time. And that there are a infinite number of ways to volunteer in relations to communications. Some examples could be
- Volunteer for a organization and work with an out reach team to spread the word / message of the organization.
- Work with an Organizations press and or media team to document what the organization is doing or what events they have been working towards.
Volunteering is great!
The final and best way in my opinion to build a strong resume is to show your own drive in the degree field you are pursuing. If your degree is in a writing field, than perhaps starting and maintaining a blog will help your resume. Having something you created to show potential future employers tells them that you have a great drive in the field and looks amazing!
